What You Need to Succeed


Education & Experience


  • Completed a degree from a recognized university
  • Experience in various finance function roles
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously

  • Communication Skills – Ability to express thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing, to colleagues at all levels and external parties; strong business writing skills with excellent spelling and grammar
  • Attention to Detail – Ability to follow instructions, understand requirements and deadlines, and ensure accuracy in financial tasks
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making – Ability to define problems, analyze information, break down complex tasks, and develop systematic and rational solutions
  • Initiative & Independence – Proactive in taking action, improving processes, and working independently with minimal supervision
  • Quality & Compliance – Adherence to the firm’s quality standards; meticulous with financial records and self-review processes to reduce bookkeeper review time


Technical Knowledge & Accounting Expertise


  • Strong understanding of core accounting concepts, including double-entry bookkeeping
  • Proficiency in Goods & Services Tax (GST) and superannuation concepts
  • Ability to resolve technical and financial issues independently


IT & Software Proficiency


  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Expertise in Xero and experience with Xero Add-ons such as Workflow Max and Receipt Bank
  • Ability to utilize APS reporting tools and extract relevant financial data


Your Key Responsibilities


Financial & Technical Functions (60%)


  • Liaise directly with clients or Sydney staff to manage financial functions
  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions
  • Process payroll and related reconciliations
  • Record and track business expenses accurately
  • Oversee the invoicing function, ensuring accurate project job costing reviews
  • Execute month-end procedures efficiently
  • Collaborate with the Sydney team as needed
  • Handle various ad-hoc financial tasks
  • Monitor job progress and deadlines, ensuring system updates for team visibility
  • Report workflow disruptions to the team leader, such as staff capacity issues, information gaps, or job stoppages
  • Independently onboard new clients and set up financial processes
  • Schedule reporting and planning meetings
  • Address staff queries and escalate issues to the team leader when necessary


Process Management & Administration (15%)


  • Complete all assigned administrative tasks efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Ensure adequate workflow planning and task distribution
  • Maintain and update compliance trackers
  • Identify and raise out-of-scope fees as well as standard service fees
  • Provide support to other HLB Mann Judd staff as needed


Time & Workflow Management (15%)


  • Optimize time management to meet assignment deadlines and performance goals
  • Track and review workflow efficiency against budget expectations (monitor WIP, prevent unnecessary write-offs)
  • Ensure timely delivery of client requirements
  • Manage ad-hoc requests while identifying out-of-scope activities


Professional Development & Continuous Learning (10%)


  • Stay updated on Australian business practices and accounting regulations
  • Attend firm-organized training sessions and workshops
  • Engage in self-learning to enhance expertise in new accounting concepts and tools
  • Act as a process or software champion, training team members on efficiency-boosting tools
  • Participate actively in team meetings and knowledge-sharing initiatives
